Your Texas Benefits Login: How to Check Your Case, Upload Documents, and Renew

YourTexasBenefits.com is the official state website for Texas Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP (food benefits), and TANF. It is where you apply, check your case, send proof, and renew. It is also where most people get stuck.

This guide walks through it in plain English. Nothing here costs money, and you never need a third-party site to use your benefits.

The only official addresses are yourtexasbenefits.com and the free Your Texas Benefits mobile app from Texas HHS. Any site charging a fee to "apply for you" is not the state.

Signing in

  1. Go to yourtexasbenefits.com and click Log In.
  2. Enter your user name (not your email) and password.
  3. Forgot your user name or password? Use the "Forgot User Name" / "Forgot Password" links — you'll verify with your email or the answers to your security questions.
  4. Locked out after too many tries? Wait, then call 2-1-1 (choose option 2) or 1-877-541-7905 and ask for help with your online account.

Don't have an account yet? Click Create Account, then "Set up account" and choose "I already get benefits" if you have a case — you'll need your case number or Medicaid ID, date of birth, and Social Security number to link it.

Checking your case status

After you log in, open "Manage" (or "Your cases"). You'll see:

  • Which programs you have: Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP, TANF
  • Whether your case is active, pending, or denied
  • Your renewal (redetermination) due date — the most important date on the page
  • Your monthly SNAP amount and next deposit
  • Letters HHSC has sent you (open "View mail" / "Letters")

If your case says pending, HHSC is usually waiting on a document from you. Check the letters section before you call.

Uploading documents (proof)

This is the fastest way to keep a case from closing.

  1. Log in and choose "Upload documents" (also called "Submit documents" or the "Report changes / send proof" flow).
  2. Pick the case and the type of document.
  3. Take a clear photo or scan of the full page — all four corners visible, no glare.
  4. Upload and save the confirmation number.

The Your Texas Benefits mobile app is easier for this: it uses your phone camera and uploads straight to your case.

Documents most often requested:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of income (last 2–3 pay stubs, or an employer statement)
  • Proof of Texas residence (lease, utility bill)
  • Proof of pregnancy from a clinic
  • Immigration or citizenship documents
  • Proof of expenses (rent, child care, medical bills)

Allow 7–10 days for documents to show as received. If the deadline is close, upload and call 2-1-1 to note it on the case.

Reporting a change

You must report changes within 10 days, including a new job or income, a move or new address, someone joining or leaving the household, a birth, or a change in child care or health coverage. Use "Report a change" in your account. Reporting a lower income can increase your benefits, so don't skip it.

Renewing your Medicaid or SNAP

Texas sends a renewal packet before your coverage period ends. If you miss it, your case closes — even if you still qualify.

  1. Watch for a yellow renewal notice by mail and in your online "Letters".
  2. Log in and open the renewal task on your dashboard.
  3. Confirm household, income, and expenses, then submit.
  4. Upload any proof requested and keep the confirmation number.
  5. Check back in 7–10 days to confirm the status changed.

Do this early. Submitting a week before the deadline leaves time to fix a missing document.

If your coverage already closed, you usually have a short window to submit the renewal and have it reinstated without reapplying — call 2-1-1 the same day you notice.

Common problems and fixes

Problem What to do
"Account not found" You may be entering your email instead of your user name
Can't link your case Use your Medicaid ID from your card, and the exact date of birth on file
Uploaded documents not showing Wait 7–10 days, then call 2-1-1 with the confirmation number
No renewal packet arrived Your address may be out of date — report the change immediately
Website is down or timing out Try the mobile app, or call 2-1-1 (option 2)

Frequently asked questions

What is my Your Texas Benefits user name?
The user name you created at sign-up — it is not your email address. Use "Forgot User Name" to recover it.

Can I check my case without an online account?
Yes. Call 2-1-1 and choose option 2, or visit a local HHSC benefits office.

How do I know when my Medicaid renews?
Your renewal date is shown on your case details page and in your renewal letter.

Is there an app?
Yes — the free Your Texas Benefits app from Texas HHS, which is the easiest way to upload documents.
